3 Students selected for Genee Finals

Three students of the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy in St Leonards have been chosen as Finalists in the Royal Academy of Dance’s Genee International Ballet Competition.

The Finalists are Amelia Baxter (15 yrs, Marsfield), Shayarne Matheson (17 yrs Homebush Bay) and Emily Smith (17yrs Mosman).

One of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world, the Genee is currently taking place in Singapore with the Finals being held this Saturday, 12 September.  To qualify for this prestigious competition, the students had to gain Distinction in their Advanced 2 (and final) Royal Academy of Dance Examination.

The largest contingent that the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy has ever had in an international competition, nine students of the Academy travelled to Singapore to compete in the Genee.  The six semi-finalists were:  Caitlin Briasco (19 yrs, North Ryde), Rebecca Duke (17 yrs, Longueville), Alana Grace (15yrs Abbotsford), Anastazja Kramarz (16 yrs Hornsby), Zoe Roberts (17 yrs Bronte), and Rachael Thompson (15yrs Chatswood) and three Finalists:

Shayarne Matheson was a Finalist at this year’s Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald’s Ballet Scholarship and winner of the Robert and Elizabeth Albert Dance Championship.

Amelia Baxter was the winner of this year’s Sydney Eisteddfod Robert and Elizabeth Albert Junior Classical Ballet Championship, was a semi finalist in this year’s Youth America Grand Prix and has been awarded a scholarship to the Australian Ballet School, where she will commence in 2010.

Emily Smith was also a semi finalist at this year’s Youth America Grand Prix as well as winner of the Sydney Eisteddfod Senior Classical Ballet 17 years, and will this year commence at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School where she has been awarded full scholarship.
