Mrs P – 50 Years – A Celebration – A Remarkable Tribute to our Mrs P

On Saturday 4 August 2012 an extraordinary event took place at NIDA’s Parade Theatre in Sydney.

Marking Mrs P’s fiftieth year of teaching and her seventy-fifth birthday, over 20 international guest artists, and members of the Sydney City Youth Ballet performed Mrs P – 50 Years – A Celebration – a specially created ballet telling the story of Mrs P’s life to date, choreographed by Paul Boyd and executive produced by Nicole Sharp.

Flying into Sydney specially for the occasion, the guest artists (many of them former students) included The Australian Ballet’s Lucinda Dunn, Christopher Rodgers-Wilson and Halaina Hills, the Bavarian State Ballet’s Stephanie Hancox and Matej Urban, Hamburg’s Priscilla Tselikova and Konstantin Tselikov, and the Dutch National’s Amanda McGuigan – plus Felicity Hader, Chelsea Andrejic, Hayley Macri, Claire Bruist, Alistair Stewart, Emma Harrington and Naoki Kataoka.

Also performing in Mrs P’s honour were Katie Pianoff, Ash Robinson, Elizabeth McMahon and Joel Small as well as recent graduates Anastasia Bertinshaw, Evan Loudon, Shayarne Matheson, Liam White, Jeremy Gates and Kristina Wallbank-Hutton.

Narrated by Australian Ballet founding member, Colin Peasley OAM and Associate Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet, Danilo Radojevic, the ballet took the audience back to pre-war Russia, through to the modern day, beautifully choreographed by Paul Boyd featuring works by Neumeier, Cranko, Tanja Liedtke and … Mrs P.

At its conclusion the audience of over 700 gave a remarkable standing ovation to an outstanding performance, and the outstanding Mrs P, with an encore staged the next day.

Receiving critical praise Mrs P – 50 Years – A Celebration the event was recorded by the ABC as the culmination of their homage to Mrs P entitled Australian Story – Tatiana Dancing which premiered on Monday 13 August.
