TANYA PEARSON STUDENT EMILY SEYMOUR ACCEPTED INTO MOST PRESTIGIOUS BALLET COMPETITION IN THE WORLD: PRIX DE LAUSANNE

Friday 2 November 2012 – Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy student Emily Seymour (15 years) has been selected to compete in the most prestigious ballet competition in the world – The Prix de Lausanne.

 

Held in Switzerland every January, competition hopefuls undergo a rigorous pre-selection process in the hope of being chosen as one of the brightest and the best classical dance students from literally 100s of entries worldwide.

 

Mrs Pearson OAM said: “I am thrilled and excited for Emily. She is a very talented young dancer with a promising future in ballet. I hope that she enjoys this wonderful experience and that it helps her achieve her dream.”

 

Best known for her outstanding performance on the Channel TEN show Everybody Dance Now, Emily will star as Clara in the upcoming season of the Sydney City Youth Ballet’s NUTCRACKER at Glen Street Theatre from Tuesday 27 November to Sunday 2 December 2012.

 

Current Principal Artist of The Australian Ballet (who is a former student of Mrs Pearson who under her tutelage won the Prix de Lausanne) Lucinda Dunn says: “Whether this is an introduction to the ballet, or part of your annual Christmas Celebrations, NUTCRACKER is a truly wonderful, traditional and colourful ballet – the perfect fairy tale! I have been lucky enough to dance in many productions of the Nutcracker for nearly 20 years, and Sydney is lucky to have the Sydney City Youth Ballet’s production.

 

Perfect entertainment for the whole family, this magical and enchanting ballet willdelight all. With matinee and evening performances, NUTCRACKER will feature special guests at select performances – The Australian Ballet’s Halaina Hills and Christopher Rodgers-Wilson as well as Alistair Stewart (Slovak National Company) and Jeremy Gates (Tanz Akademie Mannheim).

SYDNEY CITY YOUTH BALLET

The Sydney City Youth Ballet was established over 20 years ago by Tanya Pearson OAM, as a means of providing the essential and valuable experience for young dancers to perform full-length ballets alongside professional Guest Artists. Many past performers are now Principals in companies around the world, who used The Sydney City Youth Ballet as a stepping-stone in their career development. Over the years the Company has staged many full length productions at theatres including The Regent Theatre, The Seymour Centre, Glen St Theatre, Footbridge Theatre, Capital Theatre and the Cremorne Orpheum. The Company has also toured extensively, bringing ballet to the public at affordable prices.
