Rory Ferguson has been awarded a Bronze Medal at the 2013 Genée International Ballet Competition, held this past week in Glascow, Scotland.

One of only five medalists selected from fifty-eight international candidates, the talented Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy student underwent five days of intense coaching and two days of Semi-finals before making the final twelve.

Hailing from Glen Alpine in Sydney, 17 year-old Rory performed for a judging panel of top international ballet professionals including prima ballerina and President of the Royal Academy of Dance Darcey Bussell CBE, Director of The Royal Ballet Kevin O’Hare and Artistic Director of the Scottish Ballet Christopher Hampson.

Director of the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy, Mrs Tanya Pearson OAM said, “We are so proud of Rory’s achievement at this prestigious international competition. It is one of the most valuable learning experiences for a young dancer.”

President of the Royal Academy of Dance Darcey Bussell CBE said, “Many former Genée finalists and medalists have gone on to exciting and high-profile careers with companies as diverse as The Royal Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, San Francisco Ballet, Australian Ballet and Mariinsky Ballet (formerly the Kirov) to name but a few. I look forward to seeing how our 2013 medalists develop their own careers – with a Genée medal to their names and this experience serving as a wonderful stepping stone.”

Five students of the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy competed as Semi Finalists in the 2013 Genee International Ballet Competition – Valentina Markovinovich, Mischa Hall, Janice Slattery, and Ellie Hargreaves.
