LOOSEN UP!
The renowned Australian teacher,
Tanya Pearson, whose own dancing career spanned various companies
form the Borovansky Ballet to the London Palladium, has produced a
Limber, Stretch and Conditioning Class video. Drawing on exercises
developed over many years, she takes us through a comprehensive
programme, which can only benefit students and dancers alike.
Stressing the importance of proper warm-up which "greatly minimises
the risk of injury and increases muscle and body temperatures, and
increases blood and oxygen levels to the muscles",
Pearson
gives us exercises to warm up every muscle in the body. In short,
the video is an invaluable tool, suitable for students from 11 years
up to professional dancers who want to keep in shape during the
holidays or when they are unable to attend class.
In addition to the exercise programme, gamely demonstrated by four lithe dancers - Imogen Wearing, Olivia Bell, Alicia Gahan and Jacqui Ham - there is also footage of Maina Gielgud, during her term as Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet, coaching Lucinda Dunn and Nigel Burley - the latter of whom has recently joined the Royal Ballet.
